They Don’t Know Confection Contest

The Pith: Write an iTunes Review for the They Don’t Know podcast with your favorite dessert recipe in it by January 31st, 2009. Email a copy to epilonious@gmail.com, and I will make all these recipes on video, and the recipe deemed most wondrous confection by me and my friends will win the entrant a new iPod shuffle.

The Further Details in an FAQ format:

Q. What is the prize exactly?
A. A new 1 Gig iPod Shuffle. I’ll probably get the color that the winner wants. Should Apple discontinue or otherwise drastically modify the shuffle before the conclusion of the contest, I’ll probably run out and grab one of the blue ones. Also, in the episode, I accidentally said iPod nano. This is a mistake. As much as I would like to give away a nano, I feel my partner would kill me. But hey, if you send naked pictures (via me), I might be able to talk him into it.

Q. This is just some way to get yourself a bunch of positive reviews, isn’t it?!
A. No, if it was I would have said you had to leave 5-star reviews. You can leave a 5-star or a 1-star or anything between if you feel like it. I am doing this because I think it will be fun, give me something podcast-ey to do for the next couple of months, allow me to bake some new stuff, and see what people think of me. All I ask is that you leave me a bit of honesty (if you hate it or love it, maybe there is something I can do to make it better for you) and follow it up with your favorite dessert recipe.

Q. How long will the contest take?
A. Not sure, it depends on how many recipes I get by Jan 31st, I’m planning on making and reviewing one confection a week and then a big finale bash.

Q. Why do we have to email you a copy, can’t you check the reviews yourself?
A. Because the iTunes reviews are moderated, I can’t guarantee they’ll love the idea and let them be seen (I’ve seen this sort of thing happen other podcasts by awesome people however, so I think they won’t mind so long as you aren’t profane or derogitory.) The other reason is that if you email me, I’ll know who sent me which recipe and I’ll know how to get back in touch with you to thank you, and send you the prize if you win.

Q. But I already wrote you a review!
A. Well, remove your old one and write me a new one. You could probably cut and paste your old one and then post the recipe below it.

Q. How competent a baker are you? I have this really cool wedding cake recipe and I…
A. I have made home-made pie crusts and have a cuisinart and a kitchenaid at my disposal. I will say I do much better with exact measurements and times and heats. Thus, if your instructions include something like “add some milk until it feels right”, it will be at your own peril. I also don’t want to do crazy things like toasting my own nuts or scouring some farmers market for just the right shade of wasabi fondant.

Q. Will you be telling people the details in your videos? Like posting ingredients and steps and such?
A. Yes. So don’t send me your ultra secret recipe and then bitch when I reveal it to the world.

Q. Are there any food allergies I have to worry about or some ingredient I should avoid?
A. Well, I know one person in my faggle of friends who has a mushroom allergy and a bunch of other people don’t like mushrooms. But since this is dessert that probably won’t be a big problem. Also, feel free to include things that are immoral (booze, not pot or anything like that which would be illegal) or fattening. We are not strangers to butter.

And that is all I can think of for now. I will try and answer more as things come up, otherwise, happy posting, and thanks for your time!

Feel free to leave a comment or post your thoughts in the forum.

Hey there, loved your “50th” show. And I enjoy when you do your show alone or with the gang. Either way it is fun to listen to. As for the recipe, I don’t do the cooking thing. To bad.

    Good luck with the contest :) I don’t bake so I won’t be entering. (but I left a review a while ago :) )

Thank you for your kind review, dear!

You don’t have to bake. Just go on the internet for a recipe you think you will be tasty and copy-n-paste that. I’ll try my best to make it, and if it’s one of the best, you get the prize :D

That, and I’ve already told several other people it’s okay to post recipes they find on the internet, so I don’t think you prematurely exempt yourself (tee, that sounds dirty)
